Denver, CO -- The WNMU volleyball team won all four of its games, including a four-game thriller against defending national champion Nebraska Kearney, in the RMAC Crossover tourney over the weekend in Denver. RMAC East Division foes Metro State, Kearney, Chadron State and UC-Colorado Springs all fell victim to the Mustangs.

In game one action of the RMAC Crossover, WNMU defeated Metro State 30-23, 37-35, 30-27 to sweep the Roadrunners in three games. Sophomore Danica Tarkington (Chamberino, NM/Gadsden High School) had eight kills (.533 PCT) and nine blocks. Courtney Heiser (Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza High School) had 23 assists. Defensively for the Mustangs was Jessica Lindgren (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School) with 17 digs, Meghan Watson (Kailua, HI/Kailua High School) with 10 and Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) with 11. Western had a total of 64 digs and 21 blocks.

Game 2 versus UC-Colorado Springs boosted the Lady 'Stangs to 2-0 in the RMAC as they won in four games (30-15, 30-26, 20-30, 30-26). Leading the WNMU offense were Snowbarger and Watson with 15 kills each. Tirzah Armenta (Phoenix, AZ/Central High School) added 8 with a hitting percentage of .350. Heiser dished out 27 assists while newcomer Jennifer Perry added 11. In the digs column Western had four players in double digits; Melanie Tang (Honolulu, HI/Mary Knoll High School) finished with 15, Snowbarger 14, Lindgren 12, and Watson 11. Tarkington led all with 5 block assists which added to WNMU's 14 total blocks.
- WNMU 3, Nebraska-Kearney 1
Western faced Nebraska-Kearney in game 3, defeating the Lopers 26-30, 30-24, 30-28, and 33-31 in RMAC action. Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) led all with 23 kills as she dominated the stats finishing with 20 digs and 4 blocks. Liz Narkon stepped it up to tally 16 kills, 12 digs and 4 blocks. Tarkington had an impressive outing with 11 kills, a .409 hitting percentage and 2 blocks. Heiser continued her successful ways adding 60 assists and nine digs to her stats. Defensively for the Lady 'Stangs was Lindgen with 18 digs and Watson with 14. New Mexico native Lindsay Morrison (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) had 9 block assists out of Western's 23 total blocks. WNMU finished with 77 kills, 4 serving aces, 85 digs, and 23 blocks.
- WNMU 3, Chadron State 1
WNMU remained unbeaten in RMAC action as they completed the RMAC Crossover Tournament with a win over Chadron State (0-12, 0-4) in four games (24-30, 30-7, 30-25, 30-19). Senior Liz Narkon led all with 20 kills. She added 16 digs and 2 block assists. Snowbarger posted another double-digit kill match with 17. Courtney Heiser (Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza High School) had the magic touch, finishing with 52 assists and 14 digs. Melanie Tang (Honolulu, HI/Mary Knoll High School) paced the Lady 'Stangs defensively with 22 digs. Other Mustangs in doulbe-digits were Watson and Lindgren with 14 digs each. Morrison continued her domination of the net, recording 5 blocks.
The Lady Mustangs volleyball team will be back in action to face RMAC opponent Adams State College on Friday, September 15, 2006 in Silver City, NM at 7 p.m.
